The Pienaars have been renowned in the wool industry for years, especially for their excellent rams and when looking at their successes at the National Auction in Bloemfontein over the last few years, it is easy to see why. The Pienaars have been farming with sheep for 110 years, and Dries Pienaar, owner of White Wool’s Dohne Merino stud, sees it as his calling. He took ownership of the stud five years ago.
Their objective over the past 14 years has been to breed Dohne Merinos with the same quality wool as Wool Merinos, although their primary focus is to wean heavier lambs. Despite wool being a byproduct to the breeding of Dohne Merinos, it does not detract from their high-quality fleece.
